Anuman river originates from western ghats near Panagudi and the 32 kms river was restored following a DGPS survey in the year 2020. It was made possible through the collective efforts of district administration, Anna University Rural Development Program, and Nam Anuman Nathi Society along with the youth volunteers, farmers and beneficiaries of the river. To ensure sustainability, irrespective of the religion, caste, and political views, the farmers and beneficiaries of the villages located alongside the river united together and registered a society under the societies act called ‘Nam Anuman Nathi’.
The society represents members from Parivirisuriyan village, its origin and Perumanal, the place the river confluences with the sea. Following the restoration, inlets and outlets of the tanks were cleared with the guidance of the district administration in 2021. As a result, 49 PWD tanks and more than 30 Union Panchayat tanks attained full capacity in the 2021 northwest monsoon. Many tanks received water after 2-3 decades. The society along with farmers and beneficiaries, subject experts, PWD officials, and related stakeholders tirelessly works to provide sustainable solutions toward the comprehensive restoration of the river.
